Our Story

THE HISTORY

The Cinco de Mayo Trail Run was launched by the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation in 2007 to raise money for Valley Elementary School in Poway. Each year the event has grown and now draws more than 1,200 runners throughout San Diego County and Southern California.

THE IMPACT

Since Poway has a strong reputation for its top-ranked and thriving school district, it is easy to forget that many of our students at Valley Elementary are actually struggling.  In fact, 52% of students at Valley Elementary are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 52% participate in the school’s free lunch program—that’s an astonishing 222% higher rate than the district average.  These kids show up to school every day with open hearts and open minds, and now it is our turn to show up for them.

The Cinco de Mayo Trail Run raise funds that will give all kids equal access and opportunity to the school supplies, technology tools, and enrichment activities needed to build a foundation for lifelong success.
